There is something truly alluring and captivating about rain. In the same way that the Holy Spirit cleanses my soul, I think the rain cleans the landscape around me. Dust and dirt are washed from any surface left exposed to the tiny liquid purifiers. Life slows down a bit during these bouts of immersion.
Thunderstorms bring about an utterly powerful and electrifying comfort. An intensifying feeling of peaceful excitement consumes me as storm clouds begin to loom on the horizon. Flashes of lightning are a reminder of the great power of our creator in all his Glory.
Even as a child my fear of the powerful sights and sounds of a storm were overtaken by my curiosity and desire to know more about that power. I would stare out the window and watch as the drops scoured the seemingly helpless landscape. I would shudder when lightning struck close and thunder shook my very being awake.
Thunderstorms awoke my soul when I was a kid, even if only for that 15 or 20 minutes. I think that is why I was made the way I am, So that when those storms came through, I would know that a force much larger than any person was out there. This was Gods way of saying Justin, wake up now son, I have big plans for your future, and I want you to know I am here. God created us all uniquely in our personalities, It would only make sense that he speaks to us uniquely as well.
Now as an adult (only by age…) I am still mesmerized by thunderstorms. I watch the weather channel, track hurricanes, sit outside when I can, and let my senses be immersed in the power of the rain, wind, and the lightning.
I have to Thank God for waking me up, (and scaring the crap out of me) all those years ago. I had no clue of any of this then but even that does not go without purpose. God has been exposing his Glory to me in small quantities my whole life. I can look back now and most everything makes perfect sense, and now that I am ready for it I have been made aware of this truth.
The next time you hear a distant rumble, relax and allow your senses to be overtaken. He is speaking to us always, you never know what you may hear when you take the time to listen.
