Here’s a brief photo blog of what last month in Nicaragua looked it.  Daily activities were all over the place…often switching jobs or villages every few days.  Hopefully this gives you a good idea of what the month looked like.   Although it felt less relational that months past in Asia, I definitely enjoyed the spice and variety one of C. America’s poorest countries had to offer.

We lived at the base of Nicaragua’s largest active volcano all month. Pretty amazing backyard!

Lots of piggy back rides for the ninos…

Little Nancy loved to take pictures…she was a sweet heart.

Dance classes are one of the best ways to get the village kids involved with church. The kids love it! This apparently was a Christian song that they’re getting down to, especially the little one front left.

This is one of the churches we cleaned up for their 10th anniversary celebration.

On our off-days, we got to hike up a volcano…

Then I took the more challenging route of sand boarding down.  Similar to snowboarding, but on lava rocks and sand.

Stopping wasn’t always done gracefully… but it was fun figuring it out!

Back to work, painting ceiling beams at the church on pretty much the most unstable and dangerous scaffolding of all time!

Filling up sacks of rice and beans to hand out to some of the poorer villages

Hardest work days were digging 5 foot deep trenches (in the heat of the day) so that an entire community could put in water piping.  Currently they spend about 1/3 of their day fetching fresh water for their daily needs.

And so I’ll end this blog the same way we ended every day: with an unbelievable Nicaraguan sunset that we got to enjoy over some delicious home cooking!
