So another month has zipped by and this time in the Dominican Republic. After experiencing the opportunity to teach local kids english both indoors and outdoors along with all the challenges that come with that, grounds work of any kind from getting my “apprenticeship” (basically) in electrical as we wired up some stuff, carpentry as I made a pretty sweet box from some plywood, and plumbing as we dug trenches and laid piping, along with a full lesson in concrete removal by hammer and chisel, I can honestly say it has been a very productive and fun month.
I now think I’m basically qualified for any trade the moment I get home. 🙂
The ministry that we worked in was called HOPE Dominican Republic and we were actually the first group of volunteers to come in and help from Adventures in Missions. That said we were able to have the added benefit of laying the foundations for the next groups that come. We also showed our hosts that they could in fact host a group as large as ours, even considering that there was only one bathroom for 39 women and and another bathroom for the guys that maybe only worked properly 3/4 of the time. If a moment came where bathrooms were full or were too far away it didn’t actually matter because there was forest all around.
This month was great. It was both testing in living in such a large community of people but at the same time that community was refreshing. I, like many others had the opportunity to get to know others on our squad better and through that just had a month of building each other up in the skills and abilities we are all developing.
It’s crazy to think that two months are already gone but they have and each month so far has been great at continuing to equip us for the kingdom.
Hebrews 13:20-21
Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheepthrough the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ,to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
