How often do you get to wake up in the morning and do a Bible Study at the top of a waterfall?

We had a peaceful time of camping and rest before beginning our work in Indonesia, and it was exactly what we needed. There was something about this luscious green paradise in the middle of the jungle/mountains of Indonesia that reminded me of Rivendell (Lord of the Rings reference for those of you who sadly haven’t seen the best movies in the world).

So I wrote a poem about it:

RIVENDELL
——————————————————
On these journeys I have heard it said
Home is behind, the world ahead

Where waters crash & hours rush past
I’ll take my Rivendell while it lasts

While there are many paths to tread
Never knowing where we’ll place our beds

Across the seas where shadows cast
I’ll take my Rivendell while it lasts
——————————————————

Yet as I was reading today…

“Jesus did not suffer and die so that we could build for ourselves havens, but so that we might expand the kingdom of His love.”
– Erwin McManus in The Barbarian Way

And Jesus says:

Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
– Matthew 8:20

In LOTR, people arrive in Rivendell from all over the world and find rest before making plans and setting out to defeat the enemy who is trying to regain power over their world.

We did the same.

This is my “Fellowship”
