What in the world am I even thinking? To step out into the unknown and have no contact with family or friends. Give up a comfortable lifestyle and to live for 11 months in a way I could never imagine. People have asked me many times why do you even want to do this? Why are you going to travel around the world for 11 months and drop everything? My answer is simple. It’s because I have faith that God will provide and has called me to go and change the nations. Stepping out on this journey is a huge step of faith. When I look at what is before me, it scares me. In Matthew 14 there is a story most people have heard many times about Jesus walking on the water. What I see when I read it is Peter stepping out into the unknown and having a faith that is so bold. When Jesus comes walking up to the boat the disciples were afraid. Jesus says “take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (verse 27). In the craziest thing to do Peter stands up and says Lord if it’s you tell me to come out on the water! Jesus says “come.” Now Peter has enough faith to step out of the safety of a boat in a storm to walk on the water with Jesus. He had more faith than the other 11 who stayed in the boat! The World Race is ahead of me. I am scared, excited, nervous and unsure. I know for a fact that my God will always be with me. Just like Peter I’m stepping out of my comfortable life to abandon everything because I know if I keep my eyes on Jesus, I can walk toward any situation and never have to fear! There’s a song called Oceans by Hillsong United that has a simple line I love so much and it’s perfect for this, “you called me out upon the waters. The great unknown.” I feel God is calling me out into the unknown and at times I know it’s gonna be tough and the water may rise above me, but it’s always great to know that we serve a God who will pick us up before the water reaches our head. Peter may get the bad reputation for taking his eyes off Jesus and starting to sink, but he had the faith to step out and though he was sinking Jesus pulled him back up. I am so ready to see what God is gonna do through this amazing experience ahead of me and my squad mates! “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon the waters, where you would call me.”
