Now if you know anything about mission trips or the DR you know that all things are subject to change.
The day started and we got to sleep in (if you know me you know I did not really sleep in). My team leader Ashley made us eggs in a basket for breakfast, that was tasty and nice of her.
We get ready and pile into our Host family’s van to leave.
We get to the church and………. Everything changes.
We rake and sweep the outside lot to pile up the trash. Then we wait and wait and wait some more. Someone puts on some Spanish Christian Rap and we start dancing on the church stage. It was soooo much fun, we got a workout and killed some time too.
Some guys from the church showed up and start working on building a gate and a porch roof for the church.
Our host Juan looks at me and says “we clean and organize the room.” So now I’m washing the drum set with Kirby.
We eat lunch that Nudis made for us. Rice, beans (and yes Mom I did eat the beans…) and something kinda like a beef stew.
After lunch I sit down next to Alba to see if I can help her repair a stool and Juan hands me a speaker and tells me to find a way to fix it so the cover stays on. I fix it (the whole time wishing I had just some of my Dads tools so I could fix it better) and hand it back to Juan. Who in turn hands me a wall outlet and a short extension cord and tells/mimes to me that I’m to connect the wires so the outlet is attached to the cord. I’m thankful that I know how to strip wires and reattach them with electoral tape. It took some work to strip the wires without cutting them but I got it to work.
I never would have thought that being a missionary would have consisted of dancing and stripping (wires).
Every day is different and that’s what makes this life so amazing!!!
