Training Camp is 24 days away! And, Yes, Ive started to practice packing.
….thats right, packing does take practice for the World Race..or at least for me it does. Im the type of person who will pack the first time with WAY too much stuff…re-evaluate –> downgrade and then do it all over again a few times until I get down to what is truly necessary. ๐ its fun really.
First, “Thank you”s are in order: several have helped me get my gear and some are still in the process of helping me and its beautiful because I couldnt have gotten what I needed without these people offering to do what they could to help.
Tent, sleeping bag and sleeping bag liner: Michelle Euperio
Sleeping pad: Kyle & Maribeth Francis
Daypack: Courtney Watford
Hammock, pillow and pack rain cover: Victoria & Kevin Kassakatis
To be real, I started daydreaming about days on the race and using these items and I saw myself having pieces of home with me because people I care about and who care about me decided to just give generously. It blew me away as I took a moment, its more than just gear, its the things that will give me rest, they are items that ill carry everyday, some pieces are meant to protect me (tent, pack rain cover, rain jacket, etc) …and that was just an awesome visual for me. It was a picture of me laying in my tent one night, as I pictured each person who was a part of making that moment happen. Its way bigger than just those who helped get gear too, its those who have given financially, those who have been praying since I applied and got accepted. Its all so appreciated!
This evening I was able to throw in another ‘packing practice’ …Ive looked at a few other blogs that describe in detail exactly what to bring and I just jotted down a list of things to take from those. Ill say this…I have no idea how those other racers were able to pack so much for two reasons 1) the carrying capacity of our packs and 2) the weight restrictions in airports.
based off of my trial tonight I’ve already downgraded how much clothing I plan to bring because a) some of it wasn’t necessary b) there totes won’t be enough for all of it to fit anyway and c) my pack already weighs a fair amount and I’ve still not packed everything (keeping things light ya know?)
Here are a few visuals ๐
(pack, tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag & liner)
(Hammock, pack rain cover, and pillow)
I put these next to my regular pillow for size comparison (packing cubes: 2 full cubes & 2 half cubes.) and my packing list is subject to change haha
- 3 tank tops
- 2 V-neck T-shirts
- 1 reg T-shirt
- 1 long sleeve shirt
- 1 fleece pull over
- 1 pair of jeans
- 1 spandex workout bottoms
- 2 shorts
- 1 full length skirt
- 3 sports bras
- 5 pairs of socks
- tons of underwear
So what does all of this look like when its packed? Here it is!
(still haven’t gotten everything but this is a pretty good idea ๐ )
