One of our days in Kathmandu we went to a nunnery in hopes of speaking with some of the nuns. They were on a holiday so there weren’t many nuns on site. We begin walking around and admiring the architecture of the buildings and next thing I know I’m walking down the steps of their new temple they are building. God directs my eyes further ahead to this girl walking a dog. I hear Him tell me to go talk to her.
As I start walking towards her I find myself losing sight of her as she goes around a path and disappears. I keep walking around and I’m led to a building with a long hallway. I turn and hear God tell me to go to the end. Sure enough I get to the end and turn my head and find her sitting on a chair with a mirror in her hand as I look into the open window. She smiles in the mirror and I smile back in amazement God led me directly to her.
I say “Namaste” and ask how she’s doing. She replies in perfect English. I ask her if she minded talking to me and she told me “no” and invited me inside.
Her name is Angela and she’s 13 years old and such a beauty. She’s at the Buddist nunnery studying to become a nun. She collects coins and gave me a Nepali one after I told her I’m collecting coins. She likes to play badminton and loves religion. I asked her if she had studied several and she told me just Buddha and her country Nepal. I asked her if she had heard of Christianity to which she replied, “yes”.
We talked about her time so far at the nunnery and how they “cheat”. I asked her what she meant and she told me how they read palms for 50 rupees and cheat. One day she asked them if she’d pass her test and they told her no, but when she took the test….she passed.
She mentioned how she had heard of the Cross symbol. I asked her if she knew what it meant. She didn’t, so I begin talking about Jesus and the Cross. Angela sat very attentive to what I had to tell her about Him and how He specifically sent me to her because He loves her. We talked for a while and I shared my testimony with her and how Jesus wants to be the center of her life.
She mentioned how Jesus was a nice name and said she does believe in Him. Then she asked me how she could have Him? I told her all she has to do is believe and pray a prayer inviting Him into her life. We prayed the prayer together and then she had me write it out on paper. She told me how she was going to share it with everyone the next day..kind of freaked on that one because here she is at this nunnery and she’s saying she’s going to share Jesus with the nuns….there is about 200 that live there! Jesus reminded me….He’s got this!
I prayed for her before I left to meet up with everyone for lunch. I told her to try and find a Bible and read it. (Didn’t have one on me) I hurry back to share my excitement with the others and tell them I wish I had a Bible to give her. Meredith remembered she had one so she gives it to me. Brittani walks down with me and as I get to the door she says, “I was just thinking about you and praying to God like you told me I could and I asked Him if He would send you back to me.”
And there I stood to give her a Bible! How cool is that?! I believe this was her first test of faith in Him and knowing He’s not going to cheat her! Please help me by keeping Angela in your prayers. I know she’s alright and God is going to take care of her, but she’s trying to get to America to be with her mom.
Thank you Jesus because of your Resurrection and you live now in Angela!
