One of our days was spent hiking to a park where lots of people gather around 10am. We arrived and the plan was to walk around and speak to people. I start walking around and go up to several ladies, but none of them spoke any English. I decided to sit down and just sing and pray.
I began to ask God to send me someone and just as I finish a beautiful Nepali girl walked by and I say, “Namaste” (I bow to the divine in you.) I asked her how she was doing and she replied in English! 🙂
Her name is Rapti and she’s ten years old. She was in the park selling peanuts and water to make money. Anthea and me bought some from her and just sat talking to her. One of the older ladies she’s friends with comes over and starts speaking to her. We asked Rapti what she was saying and she was asking if we had already ate that morning. We told her yes and I asked her why she wanted to know. She told us how nice it was of us to buy from her to simply help her get money.
She lost both her parents when she was young. She has a brother and sister and lives with her aunt. She loves science, reading books, wrestling, and badminton. She is so intelligient and loves her country. She began telling how she wants to find ways to make her country better.
We finished talking and told her goodbye and gave her a hug. As we were waiting for everyone to meet back up I grabbed Audra to come with me to find her again. She had made a comment about my bracelet I had on and I felt like I should give it to her. We walked back to where she was earlier, but she wasn’t there. We head back to the group and I asked God to show me her one more time. As we get to the gate to leave she walks by me and I told her I wanted to give her my bracelet and she let me put it on her wrist. Thank you God for showing me one more time how great you truly are and you answer when we call.
