Dis-be-lief
noun : the act of disbelieving; mental rejection of something untrue.

{From Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition}

In the Christian realm, disbelief is considered taboo. I will admit that there are areas of Christianity that I struggle with.

One area is seeing healing. I don’t doubt that God can heal, I have had it happen to me several times, and the bible talks about all the healing Jesus did in his ministry. However, I doubted that we as Christians had the authority to heal in the name of Jesus. {It was attempted at training camp, but I wasn’t drinking that kool-aid. No way, Jose.}

Seeing healing was not something I was raised around or comfortable seeing. I had never seen limbs grow, the blind able to see or the lame able to walk. It sounded crazy to me. I mean c’mon, stuff like that doesn’t happen anymore. For some reason, I thought God was kind of over that phase.

The second night in Ireland, we went to training for Healing in the Streets (HITS) ministry. Every Saturday, people from HITS congregate in the center of the town and pray for people. They pray for anything and everything. Our training session was about five hours. We actually ran out of time so the guy who was teaching us, Mark Marx, agreed to come back to the Scout Hall and let us test out our powers.

I was still skeptical so I made sure I had a great view of our first victim: Logan.

My squad mate Logan has a medal hip and one of his legs is longer than the other. Mark had Logan sit in a chair with his back flush against the chair. Mark knelt beside Logan and raised Logan’s legs to Mark’s chest level. Everyone could see that Logan’s ankles did not line up with one another and that his left ankle was further up than his right ankle. His left leg was the shorter leg.

Mark began to tell Logan how much his Heavenly Father cared for Him, wanted to give him good gifts and wanted to heal him. Then Mark began to pray for healing… and sure enough- Logan’s left leg shot out and suddenly his ankles were even. It did not grow slowly, it grew instantly! God healed Logan INSTANTLY.

I’d be telling lies if I told you I automatically believed. Was my brain playing tricks on me? Did I really just see that?

More Lord, more.

Mark then asked if there was anyone that had back problems. Several people raised their hands and Mark called up my team leader Jeff. Jeff had been having A LOT of problems with his back. In fact, I had prayed over him many times and he was struggling with wondering why God had not healed him yet. Jeff reluctantly took his place in the hot seat. Jeff sat with his back against the chair and raised his legs to meet Mark.  What do you know, Jeff had uneven ankles too. But Jeff’s pain was in his back.

Mark began to pray for Jeff. After a few minutes, Jeff’s ankles were even. But I wondered how his back was. Jeff was asked to stand up and see how he felt. He stood up, bent over to touch his toes and collapsed in the chair and broke into sobs. Jeff. Was. Healed. {and in shock.} Jeff ran down the street and into the gym and for the first time in years, he was able to lift weights over his head with NO pain in his back.

Because I was able to see my squad mate and team leader healed, I was also healed of chronic disbelief.  Keep reading to find out the other ways God healed me.
