From March 18th to the 26th, our team entered into a “set-apart” time with the Lord. We fasted, prayed, interceded, and studied the Word together as a team and individually. We stopped using electronics and WiFi and left the comforts of our home in Antigua to seek unity in the Spirit, deeper intimacy with Him, and more understanding of His will for us here in Guatemala.

We spent four days tenting in the hot, humid, rainy mountains near Lanquin (and P.S., I have never been bitten by so many fire ants in my life … and I live in Texas).

We then spent five days sleeping on the back porch of our home in Antigua.

Why? Because “God wants to take [us] to mountaintops of faith, but [we] have to be willing to go” (Seth Barnes).

I went into this period wanting to expect something big. Wanting to “feel” His love in crazy, deep ways. Wanting to come back to Antigua having encountered beautiful intimacy with Him. Wanting to experience profound spiritual unity with my team that is unheard of.  Wanting answers to questions I’ve had for months.

So what happened? Each of us did experience the Lord in a deeper way … some had huge revelation, some understood Him in a totally new way, some felt His beautiful peace, but for me, he reminded me that …

If I heard an audible voice of the Lord, I believe
He would ask me the following: “Julie, do you really trust where I have you? Can you 100% submit to leadership and the team as an offering to me?”

Trust: firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding …” (Proverbs 3:5).

Submission: a voluntary act of allegiance, support, and response to another

Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account” (Hebrews 13:17).

Am I willing to let go of what I think is “right,”
better,” “more logical,” or “more reasonable
solely to humble myself before the Lord?

“Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility” (Proverbs 18:12).

The Journeys Guatemala Team
To trust, submit, have faith, and be humble
is a daily choice. I can choose to be the
woman of God who brings Kingdom wherever I go, or I can choose my flesh and do things my own way.

Manuel and his wife will soon be joining our team here in Guate!
