We made it to our ministry site in Nakuru, Kenya! Our ministry contact, Esther, was so excited about us coming she came the 4ish hours to pick us up at our hostel in Nairobi. I am so in love with this place already. We are living with the sweetest family this month! Mom and dad- Sammy and Ann (Esthers sister) and their four kids Linus (12), Delight (7), and twins Glee and Gracious (2 1/2). Gracious and I became best friends within the first few hours 🙂 Her brother Glee (which stands for God's Love Endures Eternally) has slowly warmed up to me. This family is way too good to us. They are spoiling us with so many fruits after every meal and delicious tea multiple times a day. We also have real beds and hot showers!!! It's the little things in life that excites us these days. I love spending time with this family and soaking up everything I can from them. They are following after the Lord with EVERYTHING they have and it is incredibly encouraging to be around them.
This week we are preparing for a crusade that is taking place this weekend. None of us are exactly sure what it will look like, but we are all excited to learn how crusades take place in Africa!! After the crusade is over we are running revivals in different local churches. 3 days at each church for 3 weeks. I'm not going to lie….I'm nervous. Real nervous. It's almost guaranteed I'm going to have to preach/teach at some point. And probably mulitple times. This was the reason I almost didn't come on the race. Talking in front of large groups freaks me out. BUT I'm determined to push through, suck it up, and DO IT! Even if its short and sweet. I have to start somewhere right? It was really sweet because yesterday we met all the different pastors we will be working with and they were all SO excited we were here and were super encouraging. Everyone we have met have been so great and incredible. We also had a short time of worship together and I have to admitt it was one of the coolest moments of the race so far for me. It was this beautiful time of coming before the Lord together despite being from different parts of the world and from different cultures. And their voices… gah they all had beautiful voices.
Other ministry includes working at Bliss Women and Children. Esther founded this organization and they have lots of different stuff they do. She opened a school where kids come everyday to get an education and recieve food. They also have classes for women to teach them skills that will hopefully help get them out of poverty. I'm not really sure all the details and programs they have but I should find out more this week. So yeah, lots of exciting stuff going to happen this month! I can't wait to see where the Lord takes us as a team, individually, and how he moves in this city!
