We arrived in Cambodia about a week ago now, and we’ve been running ever since. It’s kind of nice since we had a lot of free time last month, but hard to adjust to not having as much free time. Still, I quite enjoy the full schedule.
We are helping out at the Evangelical Missions Organization. They have several different programs including a children’s home where we are currently living. We go to church and play with the children and a couple nights a week we are teaching them English.
They also have a Wings Program where youth live. Many of them choose to live there because they have no other options and they want to go to school. This place helps them finish their high school education and, if possible, provides scholarships for further education. They also provide a discipleship program every night for the residents.
To be honest, while I like children, I like them from afar. I can handle them in small amounts but living with them? Working with them? That scared me, so I prayed about it. I am thankful God has placed our team with this contact. The children are such angels who are filled with love.
I find real joy, surprisingly, not in playing with the kids, but in another ministry we do. My father is a Middle school and High school teacher and just seeing how kids are in class and how it wears him out everyday, I vowed I would never be a teacher. Its too stressful and taxing, plus the students can be tyrants. This month, I am teaching English everyday to the Wing’s residents and a few other High school students. Sometimes I teach with another person, sometimes I do not. Just yesterday I created my lesson plan for the week. What I did not realize was how fun it could be to teach students who want to learn and have a good time. Sometimes I’m silly, sometimes I’m serious, but we all have a good time, even when it’s clear I have no idea what I am doing.
I’m also excited for I have the chance to preach in the next few weeks!
Cambodia will present many challenges for me, but I am ready to proceed, learn and grown from them. I am happy the Lord is making me face my own fears and teaching me how to love them.
Please pray for the Wing’s students and the children in the orphanage, that they can receive the schooling they crave and that they grow closer in their walk with God. Please pray for me for patience, wisdom, and understanding with the students and children. Also, for the Lord provides the lesson plan he wants me to teach.
Have a wonderful day and God bless!
I am currently $3,350 from being fully funded. AIM has graciously extended my deadline and I need $1500 of the remaining amount in by September 1st. Please prayerfully consider supporting me either through prayers or financially!
Thank you!
