Training camp was a beautiful, relentlessly stretching experience. When you ask God to show up, He will… and for 10 days, the Spirit revealed Himself in new and amazing ways for all of us. We participated in several team building exercises until leadership gave us our official teams for the first few months of our race. My team is comprised of five other beautiful ladies with a team name, “Daughters of Grace” or, “DOGs” for short. Our theme song is “Who Let the Dogs Out” because that’s how we roll.
I have a video dedicated to what I learned and what I’ve been led to share through videography that will be posted within the next couple of weeks, so for now let me explain to you all how I got to spend my 24th birthday:
We were given several scenarios that we might face on the field… One of which being a camp-out situation that required our squad to build a shelter to sleep beneath with limited supplies. Luckily, rain was not in the forecast on October 24th, but nonetheless, we built a tarp roof that housed about 20 of us. While some of us were building, others were designated chefs and some were in hot pursuit of some firewood. I got some great footage of my team serving each other until my camera died with the last frame being William explaining the nightlight we had in our “tent.”
We bonded greatly during this scenario and I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to have spent my golden birthday than surrounded by the church worshipping our creator around a sizable campfire.
I, for one, will remember this night for the rest of my life as it was in these moments that I felt most at home and most elated that my God purposed me to be there.
Without further ado, I give you my short story:
Training Camp – The Camp Out
