Relentless is my favorite word.
Why you ask?
Well, for one it sounds cool.
And we all know how much sounding cool counts for marketability right?
I'm looking at you Google!
Also, it looks cool. All those smooth curves and every character rising above the imaginary bottom line (you know the one you used in preschool when learning how to spell properly?).
But the reason it stands as my favorite out of hundreds of thousands to chose from in the english language, is because of its true meaning and connotation.
The eggheads from Merriam Webster say the definition of relentless is : showing or promising no abatement of severity, intensity, strength, or pace.
A state of being relentless means a total lack of apathy.
A lack of an option for failure.
It is complaisancy's worst nightmare.
A hope that doesn't doubt that even the greatest change of heart is just an "amen" away.
I want to be known as man who is Relentless.
Relentless in my pursuit of others.
Relentless in love.
Relentless in my prayers for others.
Christ's love is relentless.
His sense of urgency in retrieving one of His lost flock is relentless.
What causes us to yield when we see someone in need?
What causes us to give up praying for someone who has wronged us or that we think may "never learn"?
The absence of seeing the result of our prayers or actions should not halt our pursuit.
Just because a relationship or situation has to change, doesn't mean we must relent in our prayer and love for someone else. This has been a hard lesson for me. There have been times when I don't want to forgive or especially not pray for someone who seems like an enemy. The Lord has changed my heart for those very people the more I commit to pray for them.
Not passively.
Not just when it crosses my mind.
Daily.
Relentlessly.
If you are so hurt that you can't stand to look at someone, then keep your eyes closed to pray for them.
You'll be amazed how relentlessly faithful God is to rush in and restore your Spirit.
