I’m here at training camp and it is nothing like what I
thought it would be. We are hot, stinky
and dirty… All The Time.

We arrived at the airport last Saturday and were loaded on
to 2 school busses and driven for 2 hours through the Georgia countryside.  Now, keep in mind that this is Georgia in
August…. We are baking in the sun. When
we got here we went straight to the cabins to put our packs away. There are 2
cabins for the girls with 2 rows of 3 tiered bunk beds lining the walls. Of course I grabbed a 2nd level
bunk with a window in preparation for the night time. I am dripping in sweat trying not to stand
too close to anyone because I don’t want anyone to smell me. Well, after the bus ride and the stress of
not knowing anyone I decided to go to the bathroom and freshen up. I knew that the accommodations would be
primitive. I expected something like Lisa and George’s wedding. I figured if I
could handle it for a weekend I could do it for a week.  To my utter and complete shock the bathrooms
are 2 port-o-pottys with a couple of bottles of hand sanitizer lying on the
ground outside. OMG! Now what? Needless to say, here, there is NO place to
“freshen up” so, I’m just hot, stinky and dirty all the time, and I have become
okay with it. I’ve had to become okay with it, I have no other choice.

This is what it will be like on the race. I had no idea that
this is what I was signing up for when I applied. But, now that I’m here and
have been forced to live in my (and other’s) grossness, I’m pretty sure that I
can do it. And it excites me and I know
that’s weird but I guess you have to be to do what we are doing.

I’m SO excited for the world race!
