Ministry Update
Welcome to Mozambique!…

Man, who actually gets to say that in their life. This month has been great. After the first week was full of nothing but rain and waiting for all the boys to arrive, we have officially finished the first week of classes at “Beacon of Hope”; our ministry in the middle of Machava on the southern tip of Mozambique!
Beacon of Hope is run by Angie Wheeler, a fellow American, from the great state of Texas. She has lived here for almost 11 years and continues to find strength in the Lord through everything the world chuck in her path. The Beacon is a place for teenage boys to live, receive schooling, practical/trade skills, a better chance at life, and most of all, HOPE. (the website is http://www.BeaconOfHope-Africa.org if you’d like to learn more: )
There are 8 boys, all between 13 and 19, currently living here of which six are returning from last year. Hallelujah! They usually stay about 3/4 years to try and learn trade skills, finish official school, and grow in getting to know the Lord with male leaders and guys around their same age. I have love getting to interact with them, to play soccer with them, to help them cut the grass (with machetes), and admire how respectful they are to their leaders as well as each other. Each day during the week also have the opportunity to teach classes here.
Math, English, Business, Science, God’s World, and Bible class are some of the major ones. While each class is taught by a different person, the 2 World Race teams that consist of a total 14 people have really begun to find their skills at teaching.
I volunteered to lead the Bible class; the class that goes first every day, and get to start each day off with 10 minutes in the Bible. This means i also get to introduce the new memory verse to learn every week. Last week’s verse was Matthew 5:12 “Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven…” I’ve also been able to set-up a tournament style futbol season which will end with a final championship league-game leading the winners to glory and lots of chocolate ;D
Leading this month with a bunch of other men i feel like I’m learning a lot from the Lord of Manhood and what they really mean. I’ll let you all know what i learn as the month develops so keep an eye out for the next blog…
Love you all a lot and I’m so very thankful for the many of you that continue to support me through reading my blogs. I look forward to all of the many stories still to share.
Hope you liked the pics,
Joshua
