Hello from Nepal! G Squad has been here for nearly a week now and we have all split up to our respective homes for the month. My team, as well as two other teams, stayed in Kathmandu for two days. As those teams headed a few hours south, Team Fearless Love took the 90 minute drive to Dhulikhel. Our contact, Stephen, accompanied us in a van for the drive and welcomed us into his home.

Stephen and his family’s hospitality was incredible. On several occasions, he said, “You are not guests, your are family.” We enjoyed eating meals with Stephen and his family, listening to his daughter sing songs she learned in school, and learning more about the area.

I was in awe of Stephen’s love for his family. I don’t speak Nepali, but I could tell that his words to his wife, son, and daughter were intentional and meaningful. He encouraged his daughter to practice her English skills with my team and I. He was proud as his son invited us to play games with him. When he turned on his computer, he proudly declared that the woman in the desktop wallpaper picture was his wife.

This month, we are partnering with New Light Nepal, an organization focused on eliminating human trafficking from Nepal. With a presence throughout the country, their mission is to save girls before traffickers can set a trap. This is done by teaching human trafficking awareness curriculum in schools and the community.

On Wednesday, we went to a school and shared about our lives, what God is doing in us, and where to find hope in the midst of the human trafficking crisis. My team and I sat cross-legged on the floor as ten teachers attentively listened to what we had to say. They received our message well, and offered us some delicious tea before we left.

Upon returning home, we visited with the principal of the school about his visions for the school and for his career. With the passion in the hearts of Stephen and the principal, I am confident that they will make a big difference in the lives of people in their community.

Shortly after our meeting with the principal, Bradley, our main contact from Kathmandu, arrived to visit us. It was then that he shared with us that he wanted us to move to a different city where we would be doing similar things. He was not upset with Stephen, as he did not make any sort of mistakes. Rather, Bradley had prayed and recognized a need in Koti, a town in northern Nepal. We trusted his judgement and, within an hour, we were packed and ready to move.

We piled into a truck with our new contact, Sean, and took the scenic drive north. Simply calling the drive “scenic” is does not even come close to describing the beauty we saw. I struggle to find words to describe the beauty of the mountains here.

I have been spending the last day trying to wrap my mind around the craziness of my life right now. I am currently laying on my sleeping pad before bed to the sound of a rushing river directly below our home. As I swat this pesky bug away from my illuminated computer screen, I think about how excited I am to continue the work that has been started here in Nepal.

Please pray for my team and I as we prepare to…

  • Trek in the mountains to visit people that live off the beaten path
  • Meet with adults a few mornings a week in Mothers Against Trafficking (MAT) meetings
  • Share human trafficking awareness curriculum in schools and the community

Thank you all so much! I’ll post again next time we have internet access!
