Tonight I was featured on KWWL’s “Someone You Should Know” segment. If you have come to my blog after watching the story tonight, I would first like to say thank you and that I am so excited that you are here!

As you learned on the story, I am traveling to 11 countries in 11 months on a mission trip called The World Race. Specifically, I will be living and ministering in Nepal, India, Thailand, Cambodia, South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana, Romania, Moldova, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

Over the next year, I will experience different ways of serving others each month. I may be teaching English one month, building a church the next month, and volunteering at an orphanage just a few weeks later. I will be living in community with my teammates and receiving discipleship from other Christians from all walks of life.

I am trading my closet for a backpack, my bed for a sleeping bag, and my house for a tent. I will be traveling the world by plane, bus, boat, car, and foot. I will experience foods we don’t have in Iowa and learn how life is lived in places that are currently foreign to me.

Even though my story was featured on the “Someone You Should Know” segment, I would like you to know that this whole thing really isn’t about me. First and foremost, this is about my loving savior and friend, Jesus Christ. It is because of my relationship with him that I know how to love others. It is because of his comfort that I have the courage to leave my family and friends for 11 months and enter places that are unfamiliar to me.

This is about the people that I will be serving. When I was in Tanzania, I met some of the most amazing people on Earth. Their Faith inspired me to grow closer to Christ. Their joy, despite their living circumstances, changed my perspective on life. Their hospitality set a great example on how we should invite others with open arms. I can’t wait to meet and serve people from all these different places.

This story is also about you. It is my prayer that my adventure will inspire you to do awesome things for others. You may choose to serve locally right here in the Cedar Valley. Or perhaps you might feel led to take an adventure of your own overseas and experience some of the same wonders that I have and will witness.

I would love it if you joined me on this journey. I invite you to follow this blog throughout my time overseas to read stories about the ministries I will be partnering with and my reflections of how I am growing closer to Christ throughout the 11 months. Also, check out my Facebook page, “Joshua Beebe’s World Race” for pictures, videos, and updates from the field!

I am asking people to partner with me financially, as well. In order to take part in The World Race, I need to raise funds to cover travel, food, lodging, and health insurance expenses. This ministry is nearly 50% funded right now and I have until the end of the year to raise the reminder of my goal of $16,252. If you would like to partner with me in this way, you may give online by clicking the “Support me!” link on the left side of the page. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off at Hope Wesleyan Church, 505 4th Avenue NE, Independence, Iowa, 50644. Please write “World Race” in the memo line.

Thank you again for visiting my blog. I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
