After arriving in Honduras on Friday January, 11 we spent time bonding as a squad before we started our ministry. On Tuesday we started our first project. We sorted toys and stuffed animals for a woman who passes them out in different neighborhoods. They thought that would take us a couple days, we did it in a few hours. We got to go back and rest for a few hours. The next two days we went to a ministry called Heart of Christ. The woman there takes care of young girls who have had kids from rape or incest. She currently has 5 girls living with her and they each have a child. She also has 2 girls with cerebral palsy and 3 little boys. My team leader Jonathan and I were digging a trench for them while the girls on our team took care of the kids while the girls were in school. They made us amazing traditional Honduran food for lunch. I also got to play with the little boys and hold the little baby girls. My team calls me the baby whisperer because I was holding a little girl that would cry when anyone else touched her. I also held one of the little babies til she fell asleep. That was probably my favorite ministry so far. This week we have been working on building a rabbit cage for their rabbits. We are painting the cage and built a ramp and a house they can climb around on. I thought the rabbit cage was going to be really easy but we have spent four days working on it and are still not done. We should have it finished on Monday. Today we are at a market in a town called Valle de Angeles. Our squad gets the day off to relax and hang out together. I can't wait to see what we are going to be doing next week, or the months to come.
