We arrived in Panama late Tuesday night, jumped on a bus and headed to Panama CIty. We arrived at our hostel, picked out a bed and went to sleep as the taxis outside our window were honking at a constant pace.
Then we loaded up on a small bus to head to the bus station. After eating lunch at a sketchy spot in the bus station, we all gathered and boarded this massive bus for an 8 hour ride to David, Panama, which is where our home is for the next 3 weeks.
Our very first day of ministry was pretty dang awesome. We went to a Catholic rest home near the town center. Walking in, a little bitty nun was sitting behind a desk and waved us through while beaming with joy.
Walking in that room was intimidating. After all what did I even have to offer these people, and oh ya- I SPOKE ABSOLUTELY NO SPANISH. We weren’t there to talk or speak to them, in fact I probably said two words to a lady I connected with. We sat there rummaging through old Spanish magazines, pointing at things on the page, saying them in our languages and laughing with one another.
This awesome lady I sat by didn’t need me to speak to her or even understand her, she simply desired the company of a loving person and that is what I had to offer.
So if you for one second believe that lie that you yourself have nothing valuable to offer this world, YOU DO!
