On the last week in Indonesia, Romany was telling me about her new shirt, “Born to Cycle”. “Josh in the past, I use to break a lot of bikes cycles and I never could understand why. Then I saw this shirt and it said, “Born to Cycle”. God, has taught me that I am Born To Break Cycles!” I didn’t know it than but what Romany shared was a prophetic word that God wants all of us to be apart of in His perfect master plan.
I noticed this plan unveiling when we were in Bali. During one of our team meeting we received exciting news that our team was chosen to go to Burma. But with in 24 hours, we were told the plans changed. One thing I learn from being in the military is that plans always change as things are always changing. The only thing I could do is adapt.
As God interrupted our desires for His, I could not help but answer a question Seth Barnes once asked our squad. Mr. Barnes asked if we were willing to be interrupt-able? He asked, “If God needed us to go somewhere other than where we were planning to go, what would we decide to do?” Any one of the expedition teams would of gladly accepted the honor to go to Burma and be the first team to pioneer new territory that is now finally open to explore and share the gospel. This was one of the main reasons why I signed up for this expedition.
Meanwhile… God answer a prayer from Thailand. When He heard Kayla prayed, “God, we need a team to help us with finishing all of our projects. We need a team who can create and help us with designing our new space.”
[This is when the Watchmen became interrupt-able for Jesus] As we were staring into each other’s eyes, each Watchmen made a decision to accept this new mission God gave us. We accepted our new mission to help with the new bike shop in Mae Sot, Thailand. By using our creative gifts to build, design, and innovate new ideas to open creative access for the gospel in Thailand.
Our ministry host, gave each of us bikes to use to travel from work to the guest house. For me it was great to have the freedom to travel around Mae Sot. But on the first day, I broke my pedal on my bike. The next day, I broke another pedal. Then on the third day, I broke my third pedal. I kept breaking my bike cycle and I didn’t understand why. I felt discouraged because the ministry host ask me, why do I keep breaking bike cycles? The forth day, I remember being nervous because I thought I was going to break my fourth bike cycle.
On the forth day, our team went out to pray in the streets of Mae Sot to intercede for Thailand and what God was doing. Then God whispered, “intercede here with me.” I did not want to stay at the house because I love being in the streets. As I sat on my bike to ride with the group, my pedal fell off. I think I understand, God. Justin and I went back and decided to intercede from the house. For the first time I felt I interceded the way God wanted me to pray. As Justin turned off all the lights, got on his knees, and prayed with worship songs into the air. God spoke, “Will you intercede? If you pray, I will break the cycles of several evil generations. I will stop them from going in the wrong direction. I will redeem my people back to me. Josh, pray that cycles will be broken.”
“Life is like riding a bicycle. You don’t fall off unless you plan to stop pedaling.” – Claude Pepper
“Life is like riding a bicycle. You don’t fall off unless your pedal falls off first.” – Josh Cooper
God reminded me of what Romany told me. We were Born to Break Cycles! We were born to break generation curses! The way we do it is through our faith in Jesus.
As we apply God’s Word and power to our lives, and as we choose to walk in obedience to God, the chains of bondage will be broken. There are four steps to breaking a generational curse:
-
BREAK THE CURSE. As we apply God’s Word and power to our lives, and as we choose to walk in righteousness and obedience to God, the chains of bondage will be broken.
(When Moses intercedes for the People) Numbers 14:17-19 (NIV)
17 “But now, I pray, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have declared, 18 “The LORD is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generations.’ 19 “Pardon, I pray, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”
-
REVERSE THE CURSE. You can reverse the curse and live in victory: Recognize your enemy. We battle not with flesh and blood. Our enemy is Satan, and the battle is spiritual. Forgive people who have hurt you. Give your life to Jesus; the blood of Jesus removes our sin; Fight the battle with spiritual weapons (such as the Word of God and the armor of God); and Regain control over the power of your will. When Jesus shed His blood, he bought back our willpower. Through the blood of Jesus, we can say no.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV) 14“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins
-
RELEASE THE POWER OF LOVE. To become people whose lives are transformed by the love of God, we must not only get rid of what holds us captive and keeps us in bondage, but we must also be filled up with love for God, for self and for others. To know more of the love of God in your life, love those who have hurt you, those who have opposed you and those who have sinned against you.
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. – 1 John 4:9-11 (NKJV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
4. WALK IN OBEDIENCE. In order to break free from the curses and walk in freedom, you must learn to walk in obedience to God’s ways. We don’t have to be perfect or without mistakes, but our hearts need to be surrendered and pliable toward God. We need to be moving forward in the things of God every day of our lives.
I am still processing all that God has taught me this month. Please pray for cycles to be broken and for people to experience God’s love? Thank you for all your support! Please donate if you can it will help me continue on this journey!
