Coming from southern Africa to Hong Kong, it's hard not to notice the differences in similarities between these two cultures. In Africa, everything was related to the pride of Africa, the Big Five. These are the great elephant, the lion, the leopard, the rhino, and the Cape buffalo. These animals would be everywhere, on billboards, statues, restaurant and hotel names, even the currency.
Coming here to Hong Kong, I've noticed much of the same theme.. But where there were rhinos and elephants, there are now the octopus, the seahorse, the sea turtle, the koi fish, and the dolphin. It's very interesting to see how these two so very different cultures take such pride in their native animals and creatures. That although these cultures have so much to be proud of in what they have created and produced, they still find the greatest pride in the creations that God has given them.
