My name is Josef Kainrad. Thanks for checking out my World Race blog which I will be using to update my friends and family about the events and things I learn on the World Race.
I leave in September 2014 on route 4 and I will be going to Guatemala, Nicaragua, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand/Burma, India, Nepal, Botswana and Swaziland.
I want to give a very honest portrayal of this trip and the preparation to it.
I am 23 years old and live in Denton, TX. I am a member of the Village Church.
These are some of my best friends:
I like to dance with my friends.
I like to play games too (though I am pretty competitive).
I’m always up for the occasional shenanigan.
I really like comics, music, traditional tattoos, bicycles, running, fashion and fitness.
And I love history (I have a degree in it!)
Last year I bicycled coast to coast to raise awareness of human trafficking in America. I met many people on the trip who have done the World Race, and that is how I was introduced into it. The Lord taught me many lessons and a lot of people were helped. We raised over $4,000 for safe houses that rehabilitate human trafficking victims!
I was raised in a broken home, and through the pursuit of an older friend and the Young Life program came to know Jesus. I’ve often struggled with anxiety, cynicism and depression. This led me to stop formal education after my associates degree to start living my dream and tour with ministry focused hardcore/metal bands and I did that for a few years.
This was the last band I was in, Man Versus Malice. Through a series of circumstances I quit in fall 2013 to pursue the World Race. I did tour with a few different bands for a few years, and then goals and dreams change. I felt a calling to more intentional missions and felt like the World Race is where the Lord was pointing.
I live in a house with a few other young men from the church. I currently am waiting tables at a restaurant full time, fundraising full time, and just trying to live my life and prepare for this trip. I’m excited to travel the world, to see the perspective of different cultures and people from their own words and dreams, and to help where I can. I started this trip thinking I was going to change the world, but I’ve slowly realized the world is about to change me.
Thanks for checkin’ this out. Now you know a little bit more about me and can follow my journey here or also at @texasfornever!
My life! A constant process, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
