Except at the end of month one, Danielle sat with me and began teaching me how to play revelation song on her ukulele. I was hooked. Throughout my month in Ecuador, I played on Danielle’s ukulele, learning worship songs and getting better every day. Everyone was amazed at how well I picked it up.
I began to want my own ukulele to play, so I looked up ordering one on amazon. When I found out that wasn’t possible, I looked at music shops all over quito. Turns out, South America is pretty much devoid of the cute Hawaiian instrument.
So, running out of options…I prayed.
And as I prayed, I heard the voice of the Lord so clear.
“Don’t do anything. Let me provide.”
Wait a minute. Don’t do ANYTHING? I am a person that loves to be in control, and trust is not something I take to lightly.
I ignored His words and continued to look in music shops around quito. I just couldn’t see any other way that God would give me a ukulele.
But still, I prayed. I wanted to trust him, and I knew I would have a ukulele in his time.
On my last day in Quito, I checked out one more music shop, to no avail. I went back to our house sad, but still expectant, that somehow some way, God would provide.
I walked in the door of my room, and my squad mate Alexis was on her way out. She said, “Look on your bed.”
On my bed was her ukulele, that she had been carrying around for two months, with a note….
“God wants you to have this ukulele. Use it well”
It turns out that Alexis “just happened” to be talking about how she was tired of carrying her ukelele in the presence of my teammate Megan, who knew how hard I was praying.
I broke down. There was no earthly way for me to get a ukulele in South America, but God knew! God knew the desires of my heart, and he gave me a new instrument to worship Him.
I am learning a lot about depending on God. He is my provider, and he will meet my needs!!!! You don’t need to rely on only yourself. God is worthy of our trust, and he will never fail us!
