I’m hot. I’m tired. I’m sweaty, sticky, smelly, and probably not very attractive looking…but my heart is full.
I’ve been in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala for about a week now and it has been amazing. I’ve met some amazing people. I’ve had some amazing people speak life over me. I’ve had amazing times of bonding with the Lord. I’ve written in my journal and have had intense conversations with Him about what my purpose in Guatemala is, and what my purpose on the World Race is.
His constant answer has been “to serve”
I had the opportunity to participate in a feet washing activity with my team. In John 13, Jesus served His disciples by washing their feet. We are called to be mirror images of Jesus. It is our job as Disciples of Christ to serve others. Jesus said, ” If I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”
Sometimes this means we get our hands dirty, sometimes this means we have to disregard what society tells us about social standards, and sometimes that means that we have to humble ourselves and become selfless.
Selfless…”concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own.”
When Jesus performed the lowest, dirtiest job (the job of a servant), He was being completely selfless. He was showing humility and love for His disciples. By serving instead of being served we are building one another up in humility and love. Servanthood isn’t glamorous, but the Lord promises us that true greatness in His kingdom is attained by those with a servant’s heart.
There ain’t no shame in my game…I’m ready to serve!!
It says in Matthew 20:28, ” the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as ransom for many.”
Team Petrichor: I am so honored to serve each of you. I continue to pray for a servant’s heart, not just to serve you guys, but to serve our entire squad and every person that I come into contact with on the Race. I pray we continuously walk in humility, love, selflessness, and understanding. I love you guys and am so excited to serve alongside each of you!
