It’s been a few days since I last shared about my trip to the refugee camp. Since then: I went back to see Imelde, who was ever so happy to see me, coming out of her house shouting, “Jordano!” “Jordano!” She asked me before I left if I would bring her children a toy to play with, that they had nothing to play with since they had been forced out by the typhoon. I of course told her I would, and I’m looking forward to seeing her again Wednesday. A new ministry I am excited about came about totally by the will of God. Ryan had been walking up the street in the neighborhood behind where we are staying, when he felt like God was telling him to stop by and talk to a man, named Radeel. One thing lead to another, and Ryan had began leading the man in a Bible study. Ryan invited me along with him Friday, so we went out to meet Radeel for a study. When we got there, his mother met us on the porch where she was lying down. Radeel came to get us, and invited us in to his house, below he porch, where he lives in a dark 8×8 room made of limbs and sheets. We got to meet his girlfriend, Angelica, who lives there with him. She is 19 and has a little girl due October 1st. Hopefully we will get to meet her before we fly out to Cambodia. They are both incredibly kind people, and have a heart for learning more. They seemed to be soaking in what we said, and more importantly, what God was saying. We offered to get Angelica vitamins, and Radeel asked if we could get him a parallel Bible with English and Tagalog (The native language here). Radeel also mentioned he usually only eats one time a day, if that, because he is a painter and has lost work, and he has been giving anything they have to Angelica and their baby on the way. So, we are going to feed them as well.
On the way home from Radeels Friday I stopped by a local man’s cart and picked up some toys for Imelde’s kids. We are going back in the morning to see our new friends, and continue our study with Radeel and Angelica. I feel like this is one of the obvious reasons God has brought me and Ryan, specifically, not just to the Philippines, not just to Manila, but to this very neighborhood at this exact time. The daily feedings continue every day at 10am and 4pm. I estimate we feed between 100-200 people per site, twice a day. That means by the time we leave I hope to have fed the 5,000! Thursday we did a feeding at a local neighborhood in the middle of their village, which also happened to be their basketball court. Ryan and I took on a group of the neighborhood boys and sneaked by to a 16-15 victory.
Tonight (sunday) we had team time, so we decided to go see a movie and go to dinner. Jeff courageously handed me the keys to one of his Revos and I drove us 35 minutes away to Eastwood. Not gonna lie, I was a nervous wreck to drive in the Manila traffic, but it turned out to be not so bad. I included a video of it at the end. We got there just fine, and had a great time! We saw M. Night’s new one, “Devil.” It is a GREAT movie! I’ve got nothing but praise for the team’s unity and effeciency. God is using us all uniquely to do some really great things here. I pray God’s peace over your week.
