My month in Bolivia had some highs and lows. I saw some of God’s beautiful creation! and I have learned to appreciate it while I was not in the best spirits.
So as soon as my team landed in La Paz, we take a 16 hour ride on dirt roads to Apolo which would serve as our ministry site for the month. we arrived aroung 10 pm to find out that we needed to wake up at 4 am the next morning for a 32 mile hike (one way) in the Andes mountains to a tribe called Mojos. We all came on the race to service so ex felt ready to go even throughout bodies might have felt a little more tired than we would have liked. When I woke up in the morning my stomach was not in good shape. We were at a high altitude and were already warned to take it easy the first couple of days to let our bodies adjust…well I was going hiking! I don’t remember half of the hike up because I felt so awful, but I just kept praying for The Lord to give me strength. My prayers in the mornings were, “Lord, please take over me today.”
When we finally arrived to Mojos, the people were so humble and greatful that we were willing to come and be with them. There wa a group of about 30 people from Illinois with us, and God really used them to minister to the people of Mojos. Even being sick, I was thankful that I got to be apart of that trip and witness the spirit that the people had. this was just the first week of my race and God was showing my to appreciate things no matter how I felt or what I was going through. Those people were worth it.
