Background:

From what I understand about anointing, it is the person that is anointed, not the choices or actions of that person. So when an anointed individual is living life to the fullest in Christ, you can see the fruit, and it is great. However, when a highly anointed individual makes a “bad” decision or action, that is also anointed, and the consequences are also great All that to say that Abraham was an anointed man of God. Yet, he took the promise of God into his own hands– Ishmael. All throughout the Bible we can see how both of Abraham’s sons became great nations. FAST FORWARD—We are still seeing the consequences of that ANOINTED bad decision when we hear/see the strife and tension between the Islamic faith and the Christian faith.

Present:

Most people have heard about the conflict in this country (Nigeria), but all the news seems to be one-sided. It seems like people focus more on the bad news (minority of the reality) over the good news (majority of the reality). We have had the opportunity to sit in on a peace conference between Christian and Muslim leaders. While this year has been intense for this country, nothing compares to how much hope is actually HERE. You know how in America, legalistic and Christians by NAME only, give following Christ a bad rap, well that is how it is here. The Muslims that have distorted their faith, and the “Christians” who have distorted their faith have caused this bad rap. They, while being the minority, have become the LOUDEST in this country/world. It is not a one-sided conflict, people from both parties are responsible for conflict. However, the best part is that BOTH parties are involved in the reconciliation , hope, and peace movements.

When people first found out that we were coming to Nigeria, they were shocked that people cared about them. They honestly believed that their lives were worthless and no one cares. I wish I could articulate how much hope is really here. I wish I could explain the reconciliation going on, but you will just have to take my word. One of the Christian leaders sat us down, and said, “No peace equals NO GOSPEL. Love is the only thing that can bring the peace!”

Please know, that the conflict here is not just about religion, it involves tribal, political, and social aspects. So we are not in danger, in fact, all Muslims and Christians want to get to know us!
