“Same Same but Different. (Phrase coined in Asia).
Same Smile… Same Laugh…
Different Appearance.

Same Savior… Same Love…
Different countries.

Same Passion… Same Future…
Different Stories.

There are two young women. One from Cambodia. One from America. One is dark-skinned. One is light-skinned. Their physical appearances are completely different, yet their faces are the same. They both smile. They both laugh. They both joke together. They both have a story to tell…

The young woman from Cambodia was sold into a form of slavery at the age of nine. She, along with other children, was forced to beg for money everyday, and suffered the consequences if she did not bring enough money home. Later, I guess when she was too old to beg, she turned to trash scavenging for recyclables, in order, to make some money. Shortly after, she found herself turning to a gang to survive. In this gang she was gang raped over and over again. Eventually, she was admitted into a mental hospital. Soon after, a Christian lady was called in regards to this young woman. This woman took her in and put her into a program for young girls coming out of bondage and slavery. At first this young woman had very catatonic behavior. She would sleep days at a time without waking up, she would not talk, and she was expressionless. That, however, did not last long because she gave her life to Christ, and began to experience his redeeming love in her life!

The young woman from America was born into a Christian home. She did not have the same battles and struggles the Cambodian girl had. She always had love from her parents, along with strong love and discipleship from many other men and women of God. However, she did struggle with acceptance and the need to “perform” or “earn” the salvation she already had. She struggled with comparing herself to other people, which led to bondage to criticism. She had to fight against complacency, normalcy, and all the other terms that basically mean: you aren’t meeting your God-given potential that you were created for!  She finally found freedom from all of the above, and tuned into the grace God gives. She is finally okay with never being “good enough,” and ecstatic about the fact that she will be “in process” for the rest her life trying to grow deeper in Christ.

One Savior. Two salvations. Two completely different young women. Two
completely different pasts.   Now, they both love Jesus with their whole heart.
They both have the same passion to worship and live for him. They both have
the same future. They once were lost and now are found. Both bound to sin
and now free in Christ. Same love. Same worship. Same prayer.

The best part is that they are friends. I have met the most amazing person in
Cambodia, and my life has been changed forever.
