Even though the sin in this city can be overwhelming, we have been blessed to see some fruit of our labor. There are three specific women I want to share about. The first lady is Mamma Pon. This woman works from 6am-6pm everyday at one of the bars, and her job is to clean up the mess from the night before. I met her the first day I was here, and since then EVERY time I pass her she RUNS to come hug me! Each time we have had the opportunity to pray for her, and to hug on her. She is so desperate for love! Not only is she in the midst of a carnal love, but her only son died. It was such a blessing for me to be a blessing to her!
The second girl, is just that, a young girl named Amn. I met her at a bar on soy six. She told me that she was 20 years old, but she is clearly younger than that. Sometimes it is a bit awkward to start conversations off with the bar girls. Amn had really bright pink eye make-up on so I thought I would compliment her on how it looked. Her face lit up after I told her I liked it, and she quickly wanted to do the same to my eyes. The next thing I know she is on my side of the bar putting make-up all over my eyes. In that moment I was taken back by feelings of how much God loves her! Every time I passed this bar, she left the male customer she was with and ran to the street for a big hug. This broke my heart every time, because the staff here told us that if a girl was with a customer we would not get the time of day. She not only ignored him, but ran away from HIM!!!
The last woman is an awesome testimony to our work here. I do not remember her name, but I will never forget her story. As we were doing bar ministry and passing out English class cards, this woman began to tell her story to Lindsay and another lady on staff. When we all met back up, there was one more than what we started with. This woman left the bar at that very moment and wanted to be put in the Tamar Center program. She skipped the whole English classes, and was ready to leave the bar for good! The awesome thing is that she had been looking for a way out for quite sometime. She said that for the last two months she did not have a single man buy her for sex. Only a couple men even bought her, but they would find other girls before the night was over. That is a huge praise report.
