A few years ago, a guy was playing his guitar in one of the bars here in Pattaya, Thailand. Oblivious to the bar owners and bar girls, he was worshipping. It was in that instance the song “God of this City” was written and played. Chris Tomlin later recorded it, but the guy who worshipped in one of these bars really inspired me.
As I walked down walking street day after day, I noticed how almost every bar had live bands with every instrument available. A few nights ago, I felt something rise up in me that said “We can do that too.” I wanted to have a worship service inside one of the bars, with Lindsay leading from piano.
The first bar we went to was a piano bar on the street labeled “boys town,” which is the all homosexual street. Lindsay played “God of this City” and “You won’t Relent”, as well as, one of the songs she has written. Not only did we worship in the middle of boys town, BUT no one has ever played/listened to the song Lindsay wrote. This was a first!
Later that night, we went to walking street and played in the Rolling Stones Bar. This bar has a sign up that reads, “Club Sin City.” What better place to worship God through our talents than in the heart of “Sin City!” The same songs were played here. The band, that let us use their instruments, and the bargirls really liked the music, and the best part was that we were changing the atmosphere right before their eyes. God really showed us favor in every step it took to get us on stage in these bars, and it was awesome to see that Satan could do ABSOLUTELY nothing to stop us!
This has sparked a dream in me and Lindsay to come back with a band. We would like to go on a “worship tour” in as many bars as possible! God only knows where and when that will take place, but I’m excited to dream for it!
