Pattaya, Thailand is located right on the beach about two hours south of Bangkok. Supposedly, this is the busiest time of the year (November through March) because it is “Tourist” season. When I hear the word tourist or tourism, my mind associates things like Disneyworld…adventure tours…and fun. That, however, is not the case in Pattaya.
In this city there are hundreds upon hundreds of bars and strip clubs. When looking for discount movies on the street, porn is the most common genre. The new estimated number of prostitutes in Pattaya has totaled to be 60,000. These women are what the “tourists” from around the world come to see.
There are so many here because families from all over Thailand send there daughters to make money and help provide for the family financially. I have met women who have only been here for ten days, and others who have been here for five years. Some women are in their forties while others are just girls who lie and say they are twenty. They all say they do not like it here, but they “have” to make money for their families.
There are two streets in particular that I want to introduce, in case I mention them in future blogs. The first is walking street: this street is the most populated when it comes to open bars and clubs. In one open bar, there may be twenty bars within it. Each of those smaller bars have about twenty women and a stripper pole. The open bars here are basically a place for men to come and buy drinks, and then pay to take a woman home for the night/week/or month. This is the “SOFTEST” it gets.
The next street is soy six (Sixth street). This is the hardest of the hard. Everyone knows about this street and what you will get if you walk it. This street has hundreds upon hundreds of prostitutes. Unlike Walking street, soy six has mostly closed bars/clubs. The women stand outside and will literally grab men off the street and bring them inside. There is a very aggressive and strong sinful atmosphere on this street. The women of these bars have beds available for paying customers. Rather than a man buying a girl to take out of the bar, they go UPSTAIRS to the girls room and have their way.
A typical day for a prostitute in Pattaya looks like this: late morning to afternoon all the women are hanging out inside their bars. At about 3:00pm the women start to get ready for their BIG night. They put on their make-up and do there hair where you can see. At 6:00pm they are “working.” Their shift doesn’t end until their last customer leaves in the morning.
