This past month our entire squad of 52 was together serving at a ministry called Zion’s Gate located near the city of Tegucigalpa.  Zion’s Gate is currently a home to somewhere around 20 youth who have been taken in from one of the roughest places in Tegucigalpa.  Most of the kids were living in poverty and addicted to drugs.  Now these kids have a safe place to call home, with food, shelter, school, and mentoring from the staff of Zion‘s Gate and other teams that come in.  The staff also has a vision for the future that includes a community park, coffee shop/internet café, soccer field, and a rabbit selling business as a way to become a self supported ministry.

Our ministry for the month involved something different every few days.  Each team from the squad rotated between the different ministries throughout the month.  The different ministries we were involved in included teaching at 2 different schools; spending 3 days at a ministry called Heart of Christ which provides a home for teenage girls who are victims of rape and incest; hosting youth nights on Saturdays where teenagers and young adults could come in, get some food, play soccer, and just hang out at Zion’s Gate; working on the construction of both the rabbit house and garden/ park area; praying for people at local hospital; spending a day with our ministry contact Tony visiting Los Pinos which is the neighborhood where most of the kids come from; and spending a night on the beach along with the staff and kids from Zion’s Gate.
All the different ministries made for an interesting month.  Living in tents and sharing one bathroom with two showers and three toilets made things even more interesting to say the least. Overall it was another challenging but good month of the world race.
