Oct. 7-  Our first week at Michaels Children's Village (MVC) has been pretty relaxed for the most part.  The kids have been on vacation from school so we just entertain/ hang out with the kids for the day and they love just having us around to play with and give them some attention. There are about 20 kids living here right now and you can tell that most of them have come from places where they didn't get the love and attention they need.

Thursday, the 4th, turned into quite a different type of adventure when the forest area located just beside MCV property caught on fire and turned into an out of control forest fire. As soon as the fire was discovered everyone from MVC and the surrounding community rushed out to help stop or at least try to control the fire. By the time people arrived at the fire it was already too intense to put out and the wind wasn't helping either.  We quickly figured out that our only chance to stop the fire was right by the fence to MCV because there is about a 10 ft. area where there is just dirt and nothing to burn.  So we all moved there and started carrying pails of water and used backpack sprayers to put out the fire when it got to the fence.

We battled the fire for two hours or so before we finally had it all put out. It was a lot of fun to see everyone working together to prevent the fire from spreading any further.  Even though no one on our teams had fought a fire like this before, there was a need for us to help and everyone responded to help take care of the problem.

I think this relates to our spiritual walk with God as well. God is calling us into action daily. Often God calls us to do things that are new to us and we maybe have no idea what we're doing or getting into. But when God calls us into these situations, it’s important that we are obedient and respond, no matter if it's something we are comfortable with or not. Often times we think we don't know what we're doing or someone else could do the job better. I know I’m guilty of this as well. But God calls each one of us for a specific reason and if He has called us to do the job, He will help us complete it. So I encourage you all to be listening for the voice of God every day. I think you'll find that in those times when you are being called out of your comfort zone are the times when your faith will grow the most. Don't let those opportunities pass by. Be obedient to God, respond to His calling, and let Him work through you.
