(Kicks someone into a bottomless pit)
That’s the kind of stuff that has been happening this month.
Why? Because this is MANISTRY. Manistry is the one month of the Race where the 8 men of O-Squad get to take a vacation from the all the estrogen of our 28 sisters. Although we love our sisters, sometimes men just need some time to act like Spartans together.
The Spartans were renowned warriors—some of the fiercest to ever walk the earth. As a member of Team Sparta, I can tell you that the atmosphere here is thick with the glorious stench of manliness. Glorious. The inhabitants here greet each other by clasping forearms instead of merely shaking hands. We yell in deep voices at each other, calling each other epic names like “Spartan” and “Man of God.” We demolish mountains of food day in and day out. Every day here is a push-up contest as we train together, pushing each other to new limits. We hike up mountains in our spare time just so we can give each other a victory chest-bump at the top. And I forgot to mention—we blaze through rolls of toilet paper like it’s our job. Brutal.
All these things breathe life into my soul, but probably the best part about being a Spartan is the deep bond that we share with each other. We are brothers in war who fight for the same cause, kicking our enemies into those bottomless pits. We work hard and play hard, as we wake up early every day to study the Bible together and pray alongside each other.
Ben, Seth, Josh, Brent, Jonathan, Jah-Jah, & Daniel… It’s an honor to serve with you, and I look forward to the tremendous month we have ahead of us.
