I’m sitting in the airport in Malaybalay waiting for my flight to Manila. It’s been awhile since I updated my blog and I apologize for that! This first month has been wonderful and quite challenging all at the same time. Much of the month for me was about personal leadership and character development. God has used all of it to draw me closer to Him and increase my dependence on Him, and that is exactly the place I want to be. It’s hard for me to believe our time in the Philippines is wrapping up and we fly to Cambodia in a couple of days.
We’ve spent the month loving on 22 children, aged 6 mo to 13 years, who live in the New Faith Children’s Home and the staff that work with them. They are some of the sweetest children I’ve ever met. It’s been wonderful to love them, play with them, and encourage the staff. Some of their backgrounds are very sad, but they are children who love to play and sing to Jesus.
One of our major projects for the month was pulling weeds, picking rocks, and then planting grass on the soccer field. This will be a great place for the children to play, and there are plans to host soccer games, as well as to be used during Christian summer camps held on the property. We planted tufts of grass about 2 feet apart. I can’t wait to see pictures in the future of a completely green field!
We also spent time this month ministering at the jail, gangster’s ministry, young scholar’s ministry, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and preaching at a local church. It’s been so great to see squad members exercising their gifts and pouring into people that they connected with, and God moving as we step out. We had the honor of throwing a traditional Filipino party for our new Filipino friends before we left. A great time was had by all!
I’d love to upload some pics for all of you….however I’m currently having some technical difficulties. 🙂 Stay tuned….
