Saturday morning the 18th we jumped on yet another bus, and made the trek out to Maun. There are 2 other teams that are there, working with an organization called ‘Love Botswana’. We stayed with them the night of the 18th, and were hoping to meet a couple of organizations on the 19th. Mandy had found a couple organizations, but was having difficulty contacting them.

On the 19th I went to lunch with my super-awesome fellow LC, L-Dubs. (a.k.a. Zinzile, a.k.a. Lindsay). We got caught up both with all of the craziness with logistics stuffs happening, and with life in general. It was super great and really re-energizing. Meanwhile the other 4 hit the road, trying to find the organizations we were having trouble contacting. Long story short, Mandy and Danica were able to find a chain of awesome people and ministries, and ended up with 2 new UH submissions!!

We hit the road again bright and early on the 20th – woke up at 4:30am to catch the 6am bus. We took the bus from Maun to Ghanzi, which is basically in the middle of nowhere. Then we took a Combi from Ghanzi to somewhere out in the middle of the desert. Our host, Gawi (pronounced Hah-vee), picked us up there, and took us another 1.5 hours into the bush – we ended up in New Xanagas – a peaceful, beautiful place with no electricity or running water 🙂

We stayed with Gavi the nights of the 20th, 21st, and 22nd. We spent the 21st and 22nd getting to know Him and seeing some of the things his ministry is doing in the area. It was an absolutely wonderful time for the whole team – cooking our meals over the fire, camping under the amazing starry skies, learning a little about what life as a Botswanan bushman is like, and seeing what Kingdom work is being done in the area.

We decided Gavi and his ministry were definitely a UH submission, and we headed back to Ghanzi on the morning of the 23rd. Gavi drove us all the way there, and introduced us to a friend of his, who let us stay the night in their office/guest house.  The afternoon of the 23rd, we met up with 2 more contacts that we had, there in Ghanzi.  (Our day was jam-packed full!)  Danica and I met with ‘Window of Hope Ministries’, and Mandy and John met with a different local church.  Both meetings went really well, and ended up being UH submissions!  Window of Hope does several really awesome things, including skills classes for kids who have dropped out of highschool, after-school programs for the younger kids, and some sports-ministry programs.  Danica and I were able to have some really solid conversations with their leaders, and we left both challenged and encouraged.

Bright and early the 24th we headed to the bus rank yet again, to catch the 6am bus back to our starting place, Gaborone 🙂

Check out the next blog to catch the last of our adventures, here in Gaborone!
