After a long, cramped, hot bus ride that included loud strange music, and a passenger preaching/yelling out of scripture for a while, we finally arrived in Kasane. We got off the combi with our big packs and stood there planning our next move. We had no place to stay for the night, no way to get anywhere, and no idea where we were going anyways. We decided to just start walking, and ended up finding a library with air conditioning and free wi-fi just next door! So we parked it there, and started searching for a place to stay.
We weren’t having much luck at all finding anything affordable, so Danica and I hit the streets to try to explore and find something, while the others kept researching. Eventually we found a place to camp at, and the others came in a Taxi and met us. We set up our tents and got all settled in, had a nice team dinner out, and then crashed, tired from our 4:30am wake-up call (after staying up past midnight the night before playing Dominion and Pandemic with our host).
Wednesday morning, the 14th, we woke up and walked to the store to get breakfast. When we got back……boy, you should see what the monkeys did to Mandy’s tent. It was insane….I’ll let her tell ya’all that story. She was in high enough spirits to put together a post-trauma song though – check it out at the bottom of this blog.
So we spent the rest of the morning cleaning the monkey-mess up, and moving campsites, so that the monkeys wouldn’t make a return trip….hopefully. In the afternoon John and Danica met with a lady in town who is a deacon at a local church here in Kasane. They had a really great visit with her, and she also connected them with 2 other missionaries here in town. One of them knows a travel agent, who is going to work to setup a cheap trip for our team to Victoria Falls!!!
We ended the evening with some really quality team time, singing, playing guitar and goofing off around a small fire at our NEW campsite. Kelsie is meeting with Joyous Christian Center on Thursday the 15th – check out the next blog to see what happens with that!
