Goodbye Swaziland, Hello South Africa
Hey all!
So, turns out, internet in Africa is very hard to come by. That being said, I’m really sorry It’s been over a month since I last updated you.
We spent last month in Swaziland in a small village called Nsoko, living with 2 other teams at an AIM ministry base. The ministry had 8 different care points in the area, which were basically just a shack on a piece of land. Local kids could come to these carepoints once a day, after school, to get a plate of rice and beans. Most days we would visit one of these carepoints, help cook the food, and do a bible lesson for the kids. For many of the kids, the only thing they ate was this one meal, 5 days a week.
We would also do home visits to different homesteads in the area, visiting the elderly who couldn’t get out, or didn’t have work. We would bring a meal to the family or families living there, and just spend time visiting and encouraging them. Our host talked about how part of the vision of their ministry is to literally “love people to death” – to continue to encourage and love on them in their later years of life, and help equip them to support the youth.
We also helped install a new waterline for the base we were staying at. Lots of ditch digging with pickaxes 🙂
We served alongside the 8 swazis on staff there, the local discipleship team. It was a huge blessing to be able to develop relationships with them, and see what life was like for them, working with this ministry full time.
At the beginning of last month I was starting to get a little tired. It felt like I’d been gone from the states for a good long time, but still had even longer left here on the race. Plus, it was November, but without the cold weather and snow….and that’s just plain wrong. But in the time we had to spend hanging out with all the little african kids, the Lord renewed my energy, and His joy became my strength. If you’re not bored of reading this yet, and want to hear more about what the Lord taught me in Swaziland, check out my next blog 🙂
This month is “Manistry” month – all the Men of G-Squad are together! Our all guys team is working with a sports ministry here in Cape Town, SA. We’re just about to get started, so I’ll keep you posted on how this month develops.
The deadline to be fully funded is the end of this month – coming up quickly. Please keep our whole squad in your prayers for this!
