Most of you probably know, I like to say there are only 4 things I “Love”. (God, Friends and Family, Math, and Football). But I realized the other day that there may be a 5th. Driving.
As I was thinking about the things I enjoy but often take for granted, and won’t have on the World Race, I thought about driving. I love driving – cruising down familiar roads, zipping around corners, rolling across state borders…..I find it extremely relaxing. When I’m stressed out, or just need to unwind, it’s always my go-to. Summer of 2012, I drove 30,000 miles in 5 months. In the year 2013, I got pulled over 31 times, and went 31/31. (31 warnings, 0 tickets).
There’s a bigger picture here, more than just driving. I really feel the Lord calling me to spend this next year serving Him completely, wherever I’m at. I want to be totally committed and engaged – not just sitting around wishing I was doing things from home. But the reality is, I will miss things from home. I’ll want to do things that I’m familiar and comfortable with. Right?
But hey, good news! Psalm 103, one of my favorites. Check it.
1Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord’s calling my on this trip. And He has things planned that I could never begin to predict or imagine.
Sometimes (Ok, most of the time) I think I know what’s best for me. But the reality is, according to Psalm 103, HE satisfies my desires with good things. Not me. So I think it’s time for a year of letting Him choose what I really need in my life.
