Costa Rica is like a Chic Fil A…except without waffle fries. When you say thank you to an associate who works at Chic Fil A, he or she will reply, “with pleasure.”
Every where you go, the typical response in Costa Rica to thanks is “con gusto” (with pleasure).
This month I served with Team One Direction…now known as The Mighty Ducks. We did not have a particular host this month. Our mission was to travel throughout Costa Rica searching for new ministry contacts for the organization to partner with in the future. With The World Race growing rapidly this is becoming a very strategic ministry for the organization. Therefore, each month one team serves this mission through “Unsung Heroes.” This month we spent time in Heredia, Puerto Viejo, Shiroles, and San Jose.
I would have to say my favorite was Shiroles. We were only there for a few days but the team and I had so much fun and grew a great amount over that weekend. While we were there we hiked 6 hours to church on Sunday to meet with a potential UH contact and to attend their morning service. It was exhausting. Lets just say I ran out of water before we even got to the top of the mountain…I still had to hike all the way back down.
Sure, through this experience I learned a great amount about discipleship, service, and sacrifice. But what I learned most from this hike is that Jesus is the only one who can truly quench our thirst. He is the one who offers us living water.
Now then, that isn’t to say that I didn’t pray for Him to fill up my water jug on 4 different occasions. When I finally reached safe drinking water at the house all I could do is thank God. I have never been so thankful for water before in my entire life. I’m pretty sure I could hear the words of Jesus replying, “Con Gusto.”
