My name is John Sapp. I’m 21 years old and currently in college. For the last four years I’ve been volunteering with an outreach ministry called Younglife. I work with their middle and high school branches.
I was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida. I have one brother who is six years older than me, and an awesome mom and dad.
Young life has had a huge impact on my life. I started going when I was in 11th grade and absolutely loved it. It gave me a place where I felt like I belonged, and leading with Younglife has taught me so much about how to love people well. I have met so many friends and amazing people through Younglife.
Some things I like to do include playing guitar, singing, drawing, writing, and playing frisbee. I started playing guitar and singing a few years ago, I’m not the best at either, but I love doing both regardless of how good I am. I started drawing in middle school, but for the most part I just doodle in class now. I like to write about life and what’s going on in my own life. I don’t plan on writing as a career or anything, but it’s definitely a fun way to pass the time. As far as frisbee goes I just like playing frisbee with friends, whether it’s frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, or just standing around in a circle and tossing it back and forth.
According to my Meyers Briggs I am directly in the middle of being an introvert and an extrovert, which is an interesting balance. Sometimes I just want to hang out with friends, and other times I just want to do something by myself.
As I prepare for the World Race I’m really praying that God just leads me to a deeper place with Him. I really expect to come back from this journey a new person, a person who is closer to God and a person who is better at loving others.
I chose the World Race because I felt like God was calling me to do something outrageous. At first I was planning a year long hike, but I felt something off with that plan. When a friend mentioned the World Race I knew right away that that’s where I needed to be.
If you would like to pray for me then I would love prayer for peace, so that I might just trust God. Trust Him to bring in money for the trip, to take of things back home while I’m gone, and trust that He will guide me as I enter back into “normal life” at the end of the World Race.
