Malaysian Jungle Part I

Hello all! Apa Khabar? (“How are you” in Malay)

This is the first time I have been able to post a blog in a few weeks. It was rather hectic leaving the Philippines and coming to Malaysia, because we had no idea where we were going or what we were doing until we got here. My team had the opportunity to go into the Malaysian jungle for our ministry for about three weeks and it was definitely an experience! The village is about 1 ½ hours away from the closest town which is Raub and most of the time, you can only get to the village by 4×4. Most of the houses do not have electricity, running water, bathrooms or beds, basically just a bamboo house on stilts. We stayed in the church next to Pastor Hem’s house up on a mountain top. Pastor Hem is the local pastor and he and his family are awesome! Also, the village people were great, lots of kids, each family has anywhere from 5 to 12 kids all of which run around with a Machete in their hand! They play a really cool game called Sepak Takrow “Soccer Tennis.” Basically it is a small volleyball net and court and they use a bamboo wooven ball the size of a softball. The object of the game is like volleyball with 3-hits to get it over, but they only use their head or feet. It is rather impressive!

The food is incredible! Chickens and Ducks running around everywhere, so meals are made fresh daily! Rice with every meal and lots of fish too. At the bottom of the hill is a small river/creek which saved my life daily! Not only was it where every one bathed, but with the temperature over the 100s every day, the water was extremely refreshing!!! Also, along the river/creek they have a banana farm and mango farm! The banana’s were delicious and the mangos were exceptionally sour, none of the locals liked them…
