Better story(slaying dragons)

I really love super hero movies. My Favorite super hero growing up was always Spider-Man. I really like Iron Man today, though. My best buddy, Justin, really likes Thor. Thankfully Thor and Iron Man are on the same team (though they do have their moments). Every super hero has a mighty opposition. Someone that matches them in power and ability. Captain America had Red Skull, Thor had Loki, Iron Man had the Mandarin and Whiplash. These enemies weren’t simply in opposition to them however, they actually posed s larger threat to the world that only these heroes could resolve. The most recent movie I saw was

The Avengers. Age of Ultron.

Ultron was going to destroy the world.

The Avengers were the only ones who could stop Him.

They do of course, but the challenges are insurmountable.

But they do it.

That’s an inspiring story of Hope.

Though the odds were completely against them. They do it.

We have challenges in our lives everyday.

Our challenges are ours alone sometimes.

We can’t complain about it. We have to solve it.

Our complaining doesn’t inspire change or fix anything. It’s actually just lame and annoying.

Our getting angry at others doesn’t inspire change.

Think if the Avengers hadn’t banded together in those films. The world would have been destroyed. They could have sat there like little babies getting angry at each other but instead they team up and face their challenges head on.

We have to work together in this life and not be so against each other and so jealous about this persons advantage or that persons success.

In older stories of legend and lore there are tales of knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess and saving the village.

Think if that knight hadn’t gotten up out of his chair but instead decided to sit back and complain. Oh,

“it’s to hard.”

“I can’t do it.”

What happens?

He doesn’t inspire anyone, does he?

No stories are written about him.

But that dragon he could slay is still wreaking havoc on everything around him.

It’s actually selfish of him to not do anything about it.

We have to slay our dragons.

In the bible, a really cool guy named John wrote a letter to the followers of The Way. He wrote it when he was very, very old. Probably in his nineties or so. Hear this as if you are sitting at the feet of this man who, though very old, once had those same feet washed by Jesus.

12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake.

13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father.

14 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

– 1 John 2:12-14

Those of us who are in Christ Jesus have overcome the evil one.
We are in Christ and Christ has overcome the world.

So a lot of our fears and doubts that oppress us have no hold on us. But we, foolishly, hold on to them don’t we?

But we are free from them. So throw those shackles off.

We can truly stand up and not be afraid.

We can slay our dragons.

We can be Avengers and protect our world.

We can do everything with joy, without grumbling and complaining because we have been inspired to do so.

When it comes to spiritual darkness in our lives we’ve actually been empowered to defeat it.

We are in dwelt by God the Holy Spirit to show us the right direction to go.

So,

Assemble The avengers

And

Gather at the round table.

Get together in community. work together. strive together. fight hard. fight hard for one another. dont fall away.

You can overcome the hardships in your life. The harder they are, the better your story and the stronger you’ll be.

When you receive a challenge, face it with joy.

You never know what that is going to mean to someone.
You never know what that is going to mean to the world.
You don’t know how your story will bless others.

Be strong.
Be blessed.
