It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to blog. These last few weeks have been packed with traveling, ministry and a lot of intentional time with my team, Team Boundless. Here’s an update on what’s been going on these past few weeks.
G squad left Atlanta somewhere between 8:30 and 10:00 am for Chicago. Originally, we were all on the same American airlines flight. We ended up being split up on 3 different flights with some of the squad needing to rush to catch their flight. It ended up being delayed. After getting to Chicago we had a 14 hour flight to Delhi, India then a 14 hour layover until our flight to Nepal. After 2 days of traveling we landed in Kathmandu, Nepal on Saturday morning.
It seemed unreal being in Nepal for our first month of the World Race. There’s been a lot of preparation and time spent in prayer over this adventure and it was happening. After being picked up at the airport by our host’s brother-in-law we were split up from four of the other G squad teams. Team PAC, Fearless Love and Boundless were working through the same ministry host this month. We spent a couple days in the city staying at the house of the only Christian in Parliament here in Nepal. Here we met with our host and found out more of what we would be doing for the month.
Fearless Love trekked about an hour north to their ministry site while PAC and Boundless took a 6 hour bus ride south to the India-Nepal border. We are staying in a remote village in the Sarlahi region. One thing I’ve learned from being in Nepal is that you are constantly sweating or covered in ant/mosquito bites. The heat here is constant from day to night. Sleeping in a pool of sweat is something I’ve grown accustomed to. But after a few days you get used to the heat. It’s not that bad.
The past week we have done yardwork around the church and teaching math, science, english and computer classes to children from 2-15 years old. Every morning we wake up around 6 am to children showing up for class. School starts right around 6:45. During our lunch break Jonathan and myself and one of the teachers play ping pong with some of the kids. The kids here call you brother out of respect. You might hear a brother John every once and awhile.
I gotta say we have had an incredible host family here in south Nepal. We have uncle and our 2 brothers who look for ways to serve us when we are here to serve them. You can see how much the Lord means to them by the way they serve. Being around uncle and our brothers they have become family to us. While I’m typing this(with our limited wifi of 10pm-5am) we are watching Indiana Jones with one of our brothers on a laptop. No words to express how thankful I am for our hosts here in Nepal.
These past weeks have been unreal. The World Race is here. Spending time with my team and hearing everyone’s story has been unbelievable. We have had a couple setbacks the first week but our God is sovereign and His will be done. This week has brought enormous amounts of growth between our team and we are continually growing with each other.
Continue to be in prayer for all the squads on the field. The World Race isn’t just a trip. It’s an opportunity to abandon all the comfortable for the uncomfortable and let God lead and grow you in the process. Also, for the ministry here in Nepal and for uncle, our brothers and their families. We were wanting to help provide some school supplies for the students here at school. Shoot me a message if you’d like to help.
