Hello!
My name is Joell Rhiannon Sturgeon and I am currently a senior at Delta High School. I have a quirky name and a quirky personality. I have lived my whole life on the western slope of Colorado and the majority of that in the quaint town of Delta. In this next year I will be embarking on a journey to Thailand, Malawi, and Guatemala. This opportunity came about when a dear friend of mine showed me the World Race, a missions trip that is through the organization Adventures in Missions. I am excited to spread God’s word and work on different mission assignments.
So if you’re reading this you probably want to know more about me and who I am. Let’s start with the easy stuff like what I do in my free time. I adore snowmobiling, hiking, kayaking and fishing. Growing up near the Colorado mountains has made me an active, outdoorsy person and if I’m not in school or working I am on the mountain. Another pastime of mine is food, I love it, I love cooking and of course eating. I am really excited to try new foods around the world and I do mean crazy street food in Thailand. I love to travel, I am the kind of person who would backpack across America and I think airports are fun. I am so excited to travel to beautiful places, with amazing people, doing my absolute favorite thing in the entire world… living for God.
Why the World Race?
It’s a question I have been asked frequently and I always say “I want to live life to the fullest and live it with a purpose.”
My life hasn’t always been easy, and I have been extremely unhappy. I use to hate myself and everything around me. When I started high school I was going through a rough patch and was looking for something more, yet I didn’t know what it was. I became someone I wasn’t and making stupid decisions. Then my life changed dramatically when I became involved in Younglife. I met people who wanted the best for me and made me believe in myself. I found my faith and knew that the missing piece was Jesus. My faith has made me a better person, a person who isn’t scared to share my story and how He has changed me. After a summer of work crew at a Younglife camp I knew I had to live my life for Jesus and my biggest passion is wanting to help others.
When I started this school year I was torn between listening to my brain and go to college. Then there was my heart that yelled “WORLD RACE!” and ultimately my heart won. In a year from now I will be living in three different countries and helping people. I want to spread God’s word to his people, impact lives and change my own.
I’m ready for this final year of high school and preparing me for my missions trip then I’m off to live life to the fullest. If you would like be part of this adventure, keep reading and keep watching for new blogs. I need support in many ways, through prayer, encouragements and financially. The total cost is $13,805 and I could really use help through donations. Every dollar makes a difference and to start click that support me button!
Thank You for reading and Best Wishes,
Joell Rhiannon
