So we just got done with week two of ministry… But I’m running a tad behind so here is summery of week one week two will come soon enough. A quick rundown on this weeks events. Monday we arrived to our ministry site, we all had the same contact so we get to live together as a sQuad community. Monday and Tuesday were tour days, where we just to get familiar with our surroundings. Our hosts are also amazing, and we couldn’t ask for better ones this first month. On Monday, our first day of ministry, consisted of helping at a children’s festival which was being held at a local orphanage. The group who is putting it on is from Lancaster Pennsylvania, quite a few of them are actually ex Amish which is pretty awesome since I come from a part of Ohio surrounded by Amish. At the kids festival we acted as crowd control to keep the kids in line, but they were all quite well behaved. Afterwards we helped clean up the facility since waste disposal isn’t really a thing where we are in India, “lots of litter.” On Thursday we went to the main office of our ministry contact to help load a truck with school supplies and Christmas blankets. The truck was going to head into the mountains to several villages dropping off the blankets and school supplies for upcoming classes. This was some pretty intense work. At the end of the day it was a great work experience. On Friday we worked at the kitchen. This job pretty much just prep work for all our meals for the day and cleaning dishes. It was nice to be able to serve along with our host, it was an enjoyable experience. During this time my team and I all received our “Hmar” names. Hmar is the local language dialect. My Hmar name is Zamlo meaning no surrender no retreat, I’ll explain the meaningfulness of the name in my next blog. Saturday was our day off which meant we could pretty much do anything we wanted. In the morning I bucket washed my clothes, that was an interesting experience. It really didn’t even bother me it was kinda fun I kinda made it my Jesus time. That afternoon I didn’t know what I would be doing. I was thinking I would just stay at our ministry compound because I wasn’t feeling the greatest, but in the end I decided to go to Lookout Point which was a 45 minute drive into the mountains. It was crazy with some of the sights we saw, our God is an amazing creator. Today we went to a local church. They just started studying the book of Mark which will be the main book of study for the next year, the service was done in the native tongue which was a unique experience. The church where we went also gave us copies of the sermon in English so we could follow along. After the service the preacher invited us back to his house for tea and biscuits also known as cookies. There we just learned more about the culture and shared what we would be doing over the next eleven months. That sums up my blog for now I’ll share more next week. (NOTE THIS WAS WRITTEN LAST WEEK)
