Eleven men. Eighteen days. Hard, physical labor in the jungles of Northwestern Thailand. Lots of great Thai food. And most importantly, No Women.

We call it Manistry. And our goal has been to do the impossible – be intimate. Men crave a challenge right? To grow in intimacy with eachother and in our understanding of who we are as men.

On top of that, we thought it would be fun to share our discoveries with the world. As Richard Rohr pointed out, the feminist movement has done many things, good and bad, but one great good that has come from it is that women have joined together in a process of self-discovery and self-defining. They are leaps and bounds ahead of us. Men, we hope you will add to this discussion of self-discovery and self-defining.

Also, during the World Race we can’t tell you how many times the women of our community have asked us what books they can read to understand men’s hearts. They give us Redeeming Love and Captivating, but we have a hard time recomending books to them.

Once, when asked what books he’d recommend, Brian Alonzo, our squad leader, jokingly said, “An instruction manual.”

In an effort to do our squad leader proud, here is the beginning of an instruction manual. Yes, if you were wondering, there will be pictures. Also, as this is on the internet, it will be something of an E-MANual, and of course, Emmanuel is Hebrew for “he is with us.” In a way, with this MANual, we will be with you all the time.

But before we get into sharing what we think about men’s hearts, tell us what you think.

What is does the heart of a man need most? Share your oppinions in the comment section.
