Reading this blog, I am sure you are all aware that I am going to be spending the next year of my life traveling the world doing missions work in various countries with the organization Adventures in Missions on a trip known as The World Race. But what does that look like? What will I be doing? I have been asked these questions countless times so I decided it was time to write a blog about it for anyone else who might want to know.

In only four short months, I will begin my journey travelling to three different regions spending three months in each country visited. I will find out the specific countries we will be ministering in when I go to training camp in July, but as of now I know three months will be spent in Africa, three months in South East Asia, and three more months in Central America.

But what are we going to be doing?!

That might be the question I am asked most often and the one I struggle with most to explain, because in all honesty I don’t know yet!

While we are away each team is engaged in different ministries throughout the country, but that could look like many different things.

In Central America we will be serving in outreach programs with at risk youth and providing meals to those who live in the slums. We could be spending time with teens trapped in addictions or caring for the elderly in the community.

In South East Asia we could be building relationships with the women in bars or teaching these women the skills and trades they need to help them leave prostitution. We could also be teaching English in elementary schools or traveling to remote villages to spread the gospel and build new churches.

In Africa we will be partnering with locals to plant and grow churches and bible schools. We might also be praying for the sick in the hospitals or teaching the children bible stories.

In each country there is a range of ministry opportunities and we will be serving those most in need. The World Race is a unique trip also designed as a discipleship program. Although there are things planned out for us to do in each country, much of this trip will be relying on God to direct us to where the greatest need is.

To be honest, I can’t really imagine what next year is going to be like. Every time I think I have something figured out or an idea of what will happen God shakes things up. I can unconsciously create expectations for this trip and what it is going to be like but I have been learning that these nine months are not going to be about the trip, or the experience I will have, but instead about learning from God and loving the creator of the universe who has given me this opportunity for his own reasons far greater than I will ever understand.

So I don’t know exactly what I will be doing every day. I don’t know exactly what I will be learning and I don’t know the different people I am going to meet. I do however know that I will be loving those people who have no one else to love them. I do know that I will be telling people about Jesus, and I  know that I will be praying for the broken people in this world. I might not know how, but that is alright because it is all in God’s hands.

Ps,

Before I can go I have nearly $6000 more to raise. I want to ask that if you are reading this you prayerfully consider making a donation. If 60 people donated $100 each I would be fully funded. There is the option of donating online by clicking the “support me” link at the top or you can send me a cheque addressed to Adventures in Missions. Because I am going through an American organization each cheque needs to be made out in U.S funds (the amount line would say 100.00 U.S dollars). Please do not feel obligated to give but any support would be appreciated 🙂
